Public procurement is a powerful tool that can be used to forge successful cooperation between cities interested in including innovation in their net zero transitions and businesses offering smart solutions. Developing a shared understanding of the specific needs, challenges and opportunities of procurement is key for encouraging and successfully implementing technology-driven transformations.

This session focused on the market engagement process in public procurement and described the opportunities for sustainable public procurement in smart city project development. Presentations by the City of Amsterdam, the City of Umea and Las Rozas de Madrid showcased different ways collaboration between cities and businesses can stimulate effective and innovative urban solutions. The market perspective was also addressed in a presentation by Siemens AG.
