Big Buyers for Climate and Environment

The Big Buyers Collaboration Network for Strategic Procurement is a European Commission Initiative for promoting collaboration between big public buyers in implementing strategic public procurement for sustainable solutions. Public procurement can be a key tool in driving the development of innovative goods and services on the European market. By working together, and pooling their resources, cities, central purchasing bodies, and other major public procurers can maximise their market power and impact.

ICLEI, EUROCITIES and BME are currently running the network on behalf of the European Commission, DG Internal Market, Industry Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW). The network aims to work together with existing networks and organisations active in this area. In two previous phases (between 2019 and 2022), the network has successfully piloted four working groups between 2019 and 2022. In the Spring of 2023, the network is entering its third phase, which will support public buyers through with ten established working groups, which are currently being defined.
