In five years of Smart Solar Charging supported by ERDF, a network of 500 special vehicle-to-grid charging stations and 150 electric shared cars was established in Utrecht. These charging stations can bidirectionally charge and discharge. This way renewable energy is stored and can be delivered back to the grid when needed.

2021 marked the end for the project supported by ERDF, but Smart Solar Charging will continue. The next three years the network will be translated into city regions in projects FLEET and ROBUST and into European proportions in project SCALE to then be rolled out worldwide.
