The European Union has set the challenge to double the EU ambition for biomethane production by 2030. This is possible if rural actors participate together in the promotion of a portfolio of sustainable energy production options. A holistic policy approach needs to be deployed to tackle all existing barriers, unlock the existing untapped potential across all EU Member States as well as enabling sustainable imports from neighbourhood countries. The session discusses the needs for further development of bio-methane market in the EU with a special focus on countries with unexploited potential.
